Just got back from Spain. I’m exhausted. After getting used to waking up late then taking siestas in the evening, getting up at 6:30 this morning was a bit hard to take.
Okay so what to say about five days spent in Spain? I think I’ll just do this in bullet form.
- My first impression of Spain was that it was really brown. I’m not sure if that is due to the contrast with gorgeous green Ireland or if southern Spain in August is just truly brown, but it seemed really brown.
- Graffiti. Everywhere. Pretty good graffiti too.
- I’m crap at Spanish. Five years of studying and all I can do is order food.
- Fragments of buildings, windmills, huge walled in houses, all broken and just left there.
- Hot. Not Texas hot, but after a week and a half of 60-70 degree weather, it was hot.
- The Mediterranean is a very salty sea and salt + contacts + giant waves = not great.
- Half-naked sunbathers….
- I will wake up one day and have the biggest craving for the curry chicken empanadillas that I got from a little Chinese restaurant and I’ll be heartbroken that I can’t get them.
- My nose piercing fell out in the plane on the way over. After having had a runny nose for a week, I didn’t really miss it. That really isn’t about Spain but I thought I’d throw it in.
- Dogs and babies, millions of them everywhere. We were in a pretty family-centered urbanizacion so it wasn’t surprising.
I know none of this is very interesting, but in all honesty I spent the majority of my time in Spain sitting in the air-con watching TV, playing card games, sleeping, or else doing not very much. It wasn’t really about seeing Spain as much as it was about just taking a holiday from my holiday.
Tomorrow and the next few days we’ll be in Dublin and then we’re off to begin our program in London.
Oh yes, and as of 6 pm today (my time, 12 pm Texas time) I’ll be 20 years old.
